Wow! This smacks you in the face as soon as it erupts out of the speakers! The album title is right on the money. Red hot blistering and wild! This fucking ROCKS! Moves along at a sweat inducing pace and just keeps burning up the stereo! This band HAS to be fantastic live! Super strong melodies, fuzzed out Real Rocking Roll guitar blasts, a powerful and fat backbeat, throbbing bass, and more all crammed into this hot rod. Makes you feel like smashing stuff just for the hell of it! Man, if this band from Lincoln/Nottingham, UK doesn't wake you up, you are dead my friend (and you wouldn't be my friend, I'm sure)! The UK, though you wouldn't know if from there totally shit music press that squelches anything new, is blooming with tons of new HOT ROCK & ROLL bands, and The Hip Priests are one of their best!

Back in the winter of 2002 my partner-in-crime, Jake Starr, and I were invited by the Hellacopters to accompany them on a 7 day whirlwind tour of Finland in support of the "By the Grace of God" LP. Needless to say, this was not something we had to be talked into. In the slightest.

When we were told that Oslo's Mensen would be opening all the shows we were even more into coming over.

Why? Well, in a nutshell both Jake and I are addicted to chick rock bands and Mensen were one of the finest.

That week was a blur and owing to some very shady actions by their US record label the band itself was destined to implode some months later.

But, kids, songwriters of the caliber of Mary Currie don't stay down for long. You are holding the result of her latest project in your hot, grubby mitts now. She has a assembled a crew of young guns. Her kids, you might say, and written an entire LPs worth of these great songs.

You are now hearing la crème de la crème of those songs right now. And, goddamnit, if "Destroy!" doesn't make your feet tap and your mind think. The powers that be HAVE taken our heroes and used them to sell cars and cruises. 20 years ago they didn't want to know who any of these bands were. And now? Doesn't that piss you off?

Fuck 'em, I say.

Bootleg Booze is proud to release the debut EP by Mary's Kids. They might be the first label to release this band's material but as sure as the hairs on my head (and other areas) are going grey they ain't going to be the last.

Listen to Mary's Kids and go back to a time when your rock was fresh, fun and most importantly, fucking honest.

And just what do we have here? 4 songs of exceptional quality. Jesus, "I Could Be Your Nightmare" sounds like an out take from any of the last 3 Nomads LPs while "Parasite In Paradise" conjures up visions of what could have happened if Roky Erickson ever got to Scandinavia. Augmented by the lead guitar of Rolf Uggen these songs are a step ahead of 99% of what passes for rocknroll these days.

And in a world of posed-out fakeness, the Incubators are the real deal.

I got some good news and some bad news about the new Accidents record. The good news is that it sounds exactly like "All High Time" only better, and the bad news? Well, there isn't any. What a scoop for Bootleg Booze, two of my all time faves on one 7", neat-o! "Cato Negro" is vintage Supersuckers, a hardrockin' powerhouse of a song. Catchy, fast, loud, tight...y'know, it's Eddie and the boys, man! "Chinatown" (not a Thin Lizzy cover) is Zeke showing off their Motörhead influences; raw, ballsy, pissed off angry cockpunk'n'roll with a notnotch production to boot. This split is a no-brainer, so get it now, motherfuckers!

Members of Hellacopters, Backyard Babies, Maggots and Maryslim declare their love to late classic 70s punkrock. And I must confess this Stockholm project succeed with these superb covers of "The American In Me" (The Avengers), "Center Of Lies" (Warheads) and The Users' "Sick Of You". The last song is probably my fave on the "Killed By Death vol. 1" comp, and these Swedes totally do justice to the track. Of course the production is slicker, there's now a twin guitar attack, but the essence is kept intact. AWESOME!

What attracted Singles Bar to The Accidents was the brilliant premise behind Dead Guys: Three songs, played by The Accidents, written by people who are dead! Whoah! Hang on, hasn't that been done by Westlife? Well yes, but the Irish fools would soil themselves if The Accidents were on the doorstep. Oboy is handled with studded finger gloves while the drums take more hits than a German fetish website. The New York Dolls' I Wanna Be Loved is an absolute screamer that Thunders would have no doubt thanked them for covering after years of limp interpretations.
...Tonight continues the rich harmonies but the wall of distortion could blow your balls clean off.

The Deadbeats have specialized their style round Traditional Rock with a lot of influences from the 70`s. I will call their style Groovy Traditional Rock with a dose of everything from Hellacopters, The Angels, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Kiss. What impress me most with releases like this, is that it sounds so real and down to earth. All kinds of technical equipment is put a bit on the side, and with vocals, drums, guitars, bass and hammond, The Deadbeats prove that it`s still possible to make quality rock music.

"All Time High" is my pick of best drinking record in this issue! The press release states; "Instead of milk in the babies bottles they got whiskey, instead of sugar on their cereal they got cocaine, instead of lullabys they got Elvis" and labels their sound as 'Hillbilly Punkrock'n'roll'. Although the Swedes list Hank Williams (they cover "Pan America") as an inspiration, I'd call their highly infectious sound for 'good time drinking rock'n'roll singalong punkrock', think The Devil Dogs with more a snotty '77 punk style like The Adicts and you're halfway there.

What's not to like? Killer pairing of veteran US bands and a dead heat for which side wins. Who cares, spin 'em both. "Flying..." is as catchy as a cold sore and reeks of cigars and cheap whisky. The challenge is not to like it. Submit and sing along. LA's The Hangmen are like a latter-day Gun Club, maybe not as dark and a lot more snotty. "Never Go Home" is a sneering, Stoogeattack, snarly twangy guitars and an uncompromising bottom end. Great disc. The equal of two evils.

Finally this Arvika based rock n roll band have made a following up to their great cd-single "Rock beast". This single just blew me away, its totally awsome! It include two songs "Fuck you" and "I do want you" wich both are fast raging rock music with disted guitars and vocals. The wax is really thick and heavy too wich was really cool. This is a must own if you like swedish garage rock.
