Backyard Babies - Fuck Off And Die 7"
Long Gone Loser (AU)
That last self-titled album from the Backyard Babies was a fuckin’ killer! I loved it. And this here, the first 7” single from the album is a taster of what that album was all about; the Backyard Babies returning to their punk rock n roll roots and delivering the goods. Great songs, great anthemic chorus’, an awesome mix of tattoos, angst and Social Distortion meets the Ramones. “Fuck Off & Die” is simply awesome! The flip has another track from the album called “Zoe Is A Weirdo” which is a classic ballsy number followed by the slower re-working of “Saved By The Bell”, played differently here in a stripped down piano version starring GNR’s Dizzy Reed. Well fancy that, eh? The Backyard Babies are one of my favourite bands and if you’re a fan, you own this already. If not, you should. Yep, rock!
Sleazegrinder (USA)
Sleaze must really like me, as he sent me a copy of the first pressing of the new Backyard Babies single. I got the transparent red vinyl with white splatter. It's fucking sweet, man. Cool factor aside, vinyl is a huge pain in the ass, but then you get something like this in the mail and it makes all that flipping worthwhile. Reminds me of my first sleazy forays and how pretty those Pirates Press records were. Ah nostalgia. But I digress...
As you'd expect, the title song is a riproaring stadium anthem worthy of the Babies' iconic sleaze-rock status. (As an aside, I'd participate in a viking gangbang with these dirty Swedes any day of the week.) On the B-side, Zoe Is A Weirdo, an instant punk classic, and Saved By The Bell, a surprisingly sweet piano ballad with GNR's Dizzy Reed on keys. This is good shit, man.

Degeneration Overdrive (Canada)
This is the single off BYB new album featuring 2 of its best songs. Finally a single that gives the B-side as much bang for it's buck.
Funny how these 2 songs feature prominently Dregen's vocals on it. I'd interested to find out why this album was done so, what really
excited me about this release though was that as a third bonus song
you got a reworked version of Saved By The Bell featuring none other
then Mister Dizzy Reed of GNR fame on piano! Well after listening to
it I have to admit to being quite disappointed. Not to knock the
original version but this feels like not much work was put into it.
The vocals and piano don't meet up together as if the mixing wasn't
done. I also think Dizzy could of done a better job at complimenting
the song, just feels like there wasn't much space left for the
lyrics. All n all a great release and a good pick up if you wanna
sample the new album or a serious BYB fan!

OX fanzine (Ger)
