The Dee Rangers turn up trumps once more with this jumping, rollicking seven-incher. The relatively newfound swagger and sway the group has been developing is strongly in evidence here. 'Upside Down' leaps out at you, and is a glorious self-penned slice of cool beat-garage raunch with tons of hooks, that should mark it out as a dancefloor "hit" at many of this summer's upcoming swinging events. Flip it over and hear the guys tackle 4PK's manic nederbeat winner 'Down And Out' like there's no stopping them. Dig it!

The first in a series of "big hole" jukebox 45s from Sweden's coolest
vinyl label and too much praise can't be laid on it. Dee Rangers play
60's beat-influenced music. You might have known that. What kicks them
ahead of the pack is the energy overload they apply to each song.
"Upside Down" rides a swell of guitar and organ all the way to a
satisfying brace of choruses that book-ends a wild lead-break. The
B-side is a cover of a song by Dutch freakbeat band 4PK that locks into
a super groove and never lets up. A demented vocal and extremely
twisted guitar break are icing on this cake. Cut yourself a big slice. -The Barman

Swedish freak-beat, garage a-go-go band kicks of the first in a series of "big hole" jukebox 45s from Bootleg Booze Records. And they do it well! Pure and simple, no new shit here. Well, you either like these garage bands or not. I like this because it's surprisingly fresh and autentic retro at the same time. This is some catchy funky fuzz 'n' soul outing.

This is a big surprise, because finally one of the best bands of “Garage-R&B”, the Dee Rangers have a new record, though short, hopefully soon be published a long duration, this 7" contains two extraordinary songs, "Upside Down" a splendid original of "stomping freakbeat" and "Down And Out" a "fuzz-driven" version of the Dutch band 4PK, these two songs were recorded at Rolls Razor Studios in Stockholm, and is the first record that are part of the 45 singles collection "Jukebox Series" being edited by Bootleg Booze.

In spite of being down to a four peace once again, or what the A-side suggests, the sound of "blue Swedes" doesn't get turned upside down by no means! After Parsley The Lion leaving the keyboard stool empty, Nicke proved to be capable enough to jump between guitar and Farfisa, providing the same kind of a sonic garage blast as heard on the previous two albums, backed by a fuzzed-out cover of an obscure piece of '60s Dutchbeat by 4PK's. What's more, along with the likes of his native soulmate Mathias Lilja (formerly of The Strollers and now of The Maharajas) or Edgar Jones (formerly of The Stairs and now of Free Peace), Per Nyström happens to be the owner of one of the genuine garage punk howls, pinning down his band's name on the contemporary '60s revival map.

Die „Jukebox Series" des schwedischen Labels zeichnet sich durch Siebenzöller im Einheitscover sowie Vinyl mit großem, ergo zum Einsatz in einer Musikbox tauglichen großen Mittelloch aus - wer also diese Art des analogen Prä-iPods zur Beschallung seiner Behausung bevorzugt, kann zugreifen.
Auf der A-Seite blasten die Garagenrocker „Upside down" raus, auf der Flipside covern sie die Nederbiet-Nummer „Down and out" von 4PK. Die Gitarren fuzzig und rotzig, die Drums manisch, der Gesang wild - innerhalb ihres Genres zählen die DEE RANGERS zu den Besten, wie sie hier mal wieder beweisen.

Citatet ovan kommer från en kompis som gillar allt Motown hasplade ur sig när det begav sig i allmänhet och från tjejgrupperna i synnerhet, som hörde
Pipettes Pull Shapes på en förfest. Och jag kan tänka mig att han skulle kunna säga samma sak om Dee Rangers.

Down and Out, är sprungna ur 60-talets popiga garagescen och kan väl tack vare sin skramliga framtoning även räknas som punk om man med det menar just skramlet, men knappast annars.
Låtarna som sådana är två bagateller i mina öron, men desto trevligare är sättet de levereras på och det förhöjer intrycket.
Upside Down är nämligen första sjuan ut i utmärkta skivbolaget Bootleg Booze Records nya singelserie vid namn
Jukebox Series. Två låtar utgivna på en sjutummare, levererat i en standardsleeve, med jukeboxhål i mitten av skivan. Retro som fan, men trevligt av precis samma anledning.
Ny musik som låter gammal kan alltid ifrågasättas av framstegsivrarna, på samma sätt som retronördarna ifrågasätter varför man ska lyssna på nytt när det finns så mycket gammalt och framför allt varför man ska spela in något nytt som låter gammalt.
Skitsamma, säger jag. Jag gillar en schysst bit när det är en schysst bit. Och det är det på
Upside Down. Inget som förändrar min värld, men som definitivt har sin charm och förgyller tillvaron i knappt tre minuter på vinylsida. Och det räcker i bland.
